Take a deep breath.
Now that 2025 is in the rearview mirror, let’s take a moment to reflect.
Some years pass quickly. This one felt fuller than most, with more uncertainty, more headlines, and more emotional pull than usual.
Even for those who tried to tune out the noise, it had a way of breaking through. Markets moved sharply. Media cycles intensified. The pace rarely let up.
Now that we’ve turned the calendar page, the most important story isn’t a single index return or headline number.
It’s how we stayed steady while so much around us felt unsettled.
If your emotions were tested at times, you were far from alone. Last year asked a lot of investors. We didn’t just face a wall of worry. We worked our way through it, sometimes calmly, sometimes with understandable hesitation.
Here are a few of the moments that shaped 2025:
The Spring Selloff: Trade tensions escalated quickly, and markets declined nearly 20% in a matter of weeks. It seems like a million years ago now! And it wasn’t just red numbers. It was gut-punch territory. For many investors, cash suddenly felt like the only safe bet.
Geopolitical Whiplash: The headlines rarely slowed. Invasion threats. A 12-day conflict in the Middle East. China tightening control over rare earth minerals. Even Canada was pulled into the broader uncertainty. Global tension remained elevated throughout the year.
The Gold Rush: Confidence in the U.S. dollar wavered, and gold surged more than 60% as investors sought perceived safety. Fear, at times, was clearly in the driver’s seat.
The Shutdown: Washington came to a standstill. Government services paused. Paychecks were delayed. For many households, uncertainty shifted from abstract to personal, and financial stress felt much closer to home.
The AI Mania: Tech stocks went vertical. Many investors were chasing the next big thing. If you weren’t in, you felt left out. If you were in, you wondered if it was too much, too fast.
The Economic Grind: Inflation remained stubborn, and the job market showed signs of softening.
And under all the noise, one tough question likely kept bubbling up: Is my plan still working?
Living through 2025 didn’t always feel like disciplined investing. It required patience, perspective, and the ability to stay focused amid constant distractions.
And yet, here’s the important part.
After the shocks, the shutdowns, and the volatility, the market gradually regained its footing. By early December, we were approaching record highs once again.
2025 was a stellar year for the market by any standard.

As we look ahead to 2026 and its inevitable unknowns, this is what continues to stand out to me:
Confidence at year-end doesn’t come from news headlines or perfectly timing markets. It comes from staying grounded in a thoughtful, well-designed plan.
So, what helps investors remain steady when the noise returns?
Clarity through the chaos: Understanding that global events, no matter how unsettling, do not have to derail a long-term strategy.
Courage in the quiet: Resisting the urge to sell during downturns or react impulsively to alarming headlines.
Balance over big moves: AI stocks surged. The government paused. Neither had to dictate portfolio decisions.
Personal over popular: Keeping the focus on what truly matters — your goals, your values, and your definition of success.
As we enter the new year, one thing is certain:
There will be new surprises.
We can’t control markets, policymakers, or world events. But we can control how we prepare, how we respond, and how we stay aligned with what matters most.
Thank you for your trust and for allowing us to be part of your financial journey last year. It’s a responsibility we take seriously, and one I’m grateful for.
Wishing you a calm, confident start to 2026.
