This is just a quick note to let you know the Social Security Administration (SSA) is changing the way you access your online accounts. For those affected, please read on.
Soon, SSA will be phasing out the original username and passwords users created. Instead, you will be required to create an account with one of the government’s Credential Service Providers. These include:
- Login.gov, or
- ID.me
You still have time to set up your new account with one of these service providers. And your old access won’t be cut off immediately.
Normally, SSA only corresponds via snail mail. However, they have been sending email notices about this upcoming change. SSA suggests visiting their website – www.ssa.gov – and login using your original credentials. Once logged in, there are instructions on how to set up this new access.
SSA says the goal is to simplify the sign-in experience and provide even greater online safety and security. For more information, here is a recent press release from SSA:
