The city was settled in the 1890s by a Yankee from Illinois named Simeon Henry West. In December of that year, he recorded the plat of Deer Park, which gave the town its name. He envisioned Deer Park as a desirable location and named it after the abundance of deer that roamed the coastal prairies. A fantastic read.
