A few years ago the CFP Board of Standards, Inc. initiated a public awareness campaign. Their goal is to educate the public on the importance of working with a qualified financial advisor. They encourage everyone to seek advice from a CFP® Professional who has the expertise, knowledge, and ethics to deliver high quality financial advice. Since the campaign began in 2011, public awareness among the target audience has increased dramatically.
Last year, the board of standards released a fascinating advertisement that you may have already seen. I think the video does a great job of illustrating just how difficult it can be to find a truly qualified financial advisor…
Some people feel that all financial planners are “certified,” but this just isn’t true. Unfortunately, anyone can call him or herself a “financial planner,” but only those who have fulfilled the rigorous certification requirements can display the CFP® certification marks.
